About Caroline Arndt
While working on her designs she imagines the situations in which people wear or use her products. Being born in France, growing up in Germany, spending a long period of time in Asia and now residing in Vienna, she has gained varied impressions. Said observations often play a part in her designs as ironic comments for instance creating unexpected combinations by including different lifestyles.
Her textile creations and designs are viewed by the designer Caroline Arndt as a match of construction and deconstruction. First, she assembles that which she separates again in the next step. With her collage as guiding principle she tiptoes on the breaking point between harmony and dissonance. The interplay of color and form is meticulously examined. Out of these moments of pondering and investigation, expressive patterns with subtle undertones are created. According to the designer “The aesthetic demands pushing the boundaries”.
Her source of inspiration is found in the observation and distillation of contemporary arts. Caroline Arndt compares the sequence of colors to the creation and vibration of sound. (The principle of fugue as multiple polyphone elements is translated by her into colors which juxtapose or contradict each other as the notes of composition do.) Their rightful assembly, the designer pursues luminescence.
High-quality material and workmanship throughout are priority for Caroline Arndt. Her designs stem from the drawing. The individual colors are meticulously developed in graphite, pastel, or ink. Then she combines her drawings, colors and forms into collages through a digital process of repetition. “Repetition demands tension and should overcome monotony”. The individually created pieces are made for the new owner to love and treasure for eternity.
The principle of the deliberate “mismatch” is essential in Caroline Arndt’s creative work. She loves creating moments of estrangement, connecting them in self-evident style.
